Zed
Manual Configuration
Option 1: stdio (Recommended)
- Open Zed
- Open Settings with
Cmd + ,to edit yoursettings.json - Add the following to the
context_serverssection:
{
"context_servers": {
"macuse": {
"command": {
"path": "/Applications/Macuse.app/Contents/MacOS/macuse",
"args": ["mcp"]
}
}
}
}- Save and restart Zed
Option 2: HTTP with API Key
If stdio doesn't work, you can connect via HTTP using an API Key:
- Open Macuse Settings → Connections, click +, enter "Zed" as the name, and click Create
- Copy the API key immediately (it is only shown once)
- Add the following to your Zed
settings.json:
{
"context_servers": {
"macuse": {
"url": "http://127.0.0.1:35729/mcp",
"headers": {
"Authorization": "Bearer <your_api_key>"
}
}
}
}- Save and restart Zed
If you skip creating an API key manually, Macuse can also detect Zed automatically after 3 failed connection attempts and prompt you to generate one. See Automatic Detection for details.
See the API Keys page for more details.
Verifying the Connection
- Open Zed and start a new AI chat
- Ask the AI to "list available Macuse tools"
- If configured correctly, the AI will show the available toolboxes
